Top Post? AGAIN!

TopPosts2

That’s right, listed once more on WordPress.com’s Top Posts list, this time for July 26, 2008.

I’m still working on more iPhone App reviews. Will need to edit Satori Sudoku as the author just pushed through an update that fixed the broken puzzle issue. Aurora Feint also updated so I’ll be doing a review on it next.

On related news, quite a few people have mentioned that they are having issues importing their ringtones into iTunes. I can try to help out, but when you post a comment please say what exactly you’ve already done to make/import your ringtones. Remember, you can’t just rename an MP3 to M4R. It has to be converted to M4A first, then to M4R.

iPhone App Review: Mandelbrot (Now iFractal)

Note: Mandelbrot has changed it’s name to iFractal and even more features have been added since this review was written.

Mandelbrot1A few friends of mine and I were talking about our eagerness to see  Apple fix the code to allow for true IM clients to run on the iPhone. The big thing is that Apple doesn’t want anything running as a ‘background process’ so they are doing a few different things that the App developers are going to have to do differently to get it all to work. One thing that someone said off hand was “you won’t be able to do anything like render a fractal in the background”. Not to long after that I was perusing the App store and found Mandelbrot.

iPhone App Review: Satori Sudoku

IMG_0007

Note: This is updated to reflect the App’s current version.

Ever since I had my old Palm Treo 650, my first requirement when I had any handheld device was a game of Sudoku. Same thing goes for my new iPhone.

Scouring the App Store uncovered dozens of Sudoku games for a range of prices, but none were free. I looked through the reviews and found one that seemed to have an overall good review by the users: Satori Sudoku. Most of the reviewers said it had a pretty good interface, better than the other sudoku apps out at the time. For only $1.99 I was willing to give it a shot. … continue reading this entry.

Top Post? Wow!

TopPosts Thanks to everyone for reading my iPhone Ringtone post. It was listed as # 32 Top Post for July 21, 2008!

I’m going to try possibly reviewing some iPhone Apps as well as some other internet services I make use of. If you have any requests or suggestions just leave a comment on this post and I’ll see what I can do. No promises though. The point of a blog is to enjoy it, not slave over it.

Pandora Radio

When I finally managed to get my new iphone, the first thing Tanya & Laura say is “You have to get Pandora Radio“. At first I’m wondering why on earth would I want an internet radio station on my phone when I can use my entire iTunes Library at last.. but then Erroch piped in and said I needed to check it out so I caved. So will you when you hear about all of this.

One of the difficult parts for me was having to wrap my head around what Pandora actually is. It really is like flipping through radio stations. Each ’station’ will have themes, similarities, etc. How it obtains those ’seeds’ are up to you. For better explanation, I’m going to take you through the process of getting setup. It’s how my mind works, so bare with me. … continue reading this entry.

Growing Pains?

Growing Blogs Apparently this blog was featured in WordPress.com’s “Blog of the Day: Growing Blogs” on July 17, 2008. Wonder if the ranking means anything? Being #4 can’t be that bad.

(Trying to post a picture, hope this upload works.)

With hope I’ll be able to keep posting more good articles, but who knows. I’m currently writing up something on Pandora Radio. Might get it finished today. Cross your fingers.

Howto: Make your own custom Ringtones for iPhone 2.0 (3G)

Update: I’ve redone this entire tutorial. Please check the new one as it’s far better than this one.

Yesterday I purchased my new 16gig iphone and was very happy to wave goodbye to my old Treo 650 which had lived long beyond it’s mileage. It wasn’t until late last night when I was playing around with my custom settings that I found out I couldn’t add my own custom ringtones. My friend informed me that Apple had set it up that you had to pay double through the itunes store in order to get them which greatly upset me.
